Indie Connect Chapter President Position Description

Title: Chapter President

Reports to: CEO and National/Regional Membership Directors. 

Job purpose:  

To develop and manage a local chapter comprised of singers, musicians, songwriters, record labels, service providers and music professionals, and to provide them with live educational and networking opportunities.

 To plan and carry out direct marketing and sales activities so as to maintain and develop sales of Indie Connect memberships, event attendance, advertising, sponsorships, products and services in accordance with company guidelines.

 Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Host local, regularly scheduled Indie Connect chapter meetings for musicians, singers, songwriters and music industry professionals.
  • Establish a local ‘chapter’, which fosters an atmosphere of community and cooperation among the attendees.
  • Nurture attendees. This includes encouraging them, bolstering their confidence and teaching them how to ask for help. It also includes teaching them how to work with the contacts they make, how to put the information they learn to use in their own careers, how to access the tools and educational materials available to them through the Indie Connect website etc.  (This does not mean working with them as their manager or personal career coach!)
  • Schedule speakers (music industry experts), video presentations, panel discussions, showcases etc. for meetings as needed.
  • Recruit attendees for Indie Connect local chapter meetings as well as seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Recruit local newsletter and international e-magazine subscribers (optional).
  • Recruit new members at all membership levels.
  • Sell products and services offered by Indie Connect.
  • Sell newsletter and e-magazine advertising.
  • Sell event and chapter sponsorships (optional).
  • Assist in planning and hosting local and/or regional workshops, seminars and conferences.
  • Serve as the liaison between Indie Connect and local music related businesses, organizations, colleges and high schools.
  • Develop strategic alliances and local joint ventures whenever possible and appropriate.
  • Plan and carry out direct sales and marketing activities.
  • Monitor and report on events and activities and provide relevant management information.
  • Participate in live and online training(s) as necessary to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Disseminate sales and promotional materials
  • Develop and make presentations of company products and services to current and potential members or strategic alliances.
  • Ensure customer service satisfaction and good client relationships.
  • Handle cash and other financial transactions responsibly.

 Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of the music industry on the independent artist level preferred
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications (e.g. MS Word; some MS Excel; MS Outlook or another email program; Internet)
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of sales
  • Knowledge of customer service principles
  • Knowledge of basic business principles
  • Experience in sales with proven ability to achieve sales targets
  • Public speaking experience or experience in making presentations and/or conducting meetings
  • Management experience helpful for chapter growth
  • Experience using online social networks for marketing (MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.)
  • No formal education required

Compensation

This is a commission-only sales position. Income is based solely on the Chapter President’s ability to attract participants to events and to sell memberships, advertising, sponsorships and products.
