The Power of Masterminding

“The term “supercomputing” refers to the processing of massively complex or data-laden problems using the concentrated compute resources of multiple computer systems working in parallel (i.e. a “supercomputer”). Masterminding is similar to the process of supercomputing. It means using the ‘processing power’ of multiple people to take on or tackle a project, idea or problem together. The results of bringing together people with various perspectives, education, experiences, levels of creativity and skill sets can seem almost miraculous. Working alone, or going it solo can be satisfying but it has enormous limitations.

Here are some ways you can benefit from masterminding in your music career:

  • Co-write with one or more people; with the right partner you create something stronger than any one of you could create on your own.
  • Have your team meet together instead of working completely separately. It will multiply your results dramatically.
  • Ask your fans for input, ideas, suggestions or opinions. Not only does it keep them engaged and makes them feel important. It helps you make critical decisions while ensuring that you are pleasing your most loyal and interactive fans.
  • Attend mastermind events. This can be powerful regardless of whether they are centered around the music industry. Sometimes the best ideas or solutions will come from someone who looks at things from a purely business or fan perspective.
  • Bring together people you trust to discuss or attack a situation. It enables you to harness the levels of thinking, resources and connections you need to break through any barrier.
  • Find a mentor, coach or consultant with skill sets and areas of expertise that you don’t have. Having someone to bounce ideas off and give you unbiased feedback can accelerate your successes while minimizing your failures.
  • Have an entire band work on a song arrangement instead of doing it all in the studio yourself. Even if you are competent at playing every instrument, you only have your personal level of creativity and skills. Bringing in people who are amazing at their instrument or vocals because they have the skills and are extremely creative can dramatically increase the uniqueness of your sound.

There will always be some things you prefer to do alone, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But trying to do everything alone, regardless of the reason, can lead to stagnation, depression and burnout. Tap into the incredible knowledge, skills, creativity, resources and connections all around you. First, you’ll be amazed at how many people will be willing to help. But more importantly, you’ll free up time while significantly multiplying your productivity and increasing the level of your quality.
