The public is bombarded with new music and artists from every angle. The only way for you to attract a solid fan base is for your light to shine brighter than everyone else’s. Here is how you do that.
- Engagement – Involve your audience/fans in everything from your shows to your song choices to your social media to keep them engaged.
- Relatability – Everyone is relatable to someone. Find out who closely relates to you (age, gender, income level, interests, location etc.) and then find more people like them.
- Consistency – Stay in front of your audience with something new (new music, music video, lyric video, a new version of a song etc.) on a regular basis. Don’t give them the opportunity to find another ‘favorite artist’.
- Accessibility – Your super fans want to be able to connect with you on a personal level. Give them that opportunity often (e.g. Facebook live with Q&A).
- Authenticity – People can tell if you’re putting on an act and trying to be something you aren’t. Stay true to who you are and it will come through in everything you do.
- Competency – Be solid in the skills sets you profess to have. Focus on your strengths and find ways/people to handle the areas you are weaker in.
- Innovation – Show that you have something to offer that no one else does and find the people appreciate your uniqueness.
- Passion – People will fall in love with the you because of what you are passionate about. Nowadays that often comes even before they know your music.
- Involvement – People love artists who are literally involved in helping/supporting others in some way.
- Anticipation – Keep your fans anxious for your next ‘surprise’ and you’ll keep them for a long time.

The bottom line… In order to attract followers, you must be a leader. Lead your fans on a consistent, non-stop journey that keeps them excited, engaged, hyped and anxious for more, and you’ll keep them for a long, long time.
