7 Tips fora Better Music Performance, a Mini Guide!

Performing in front of a crowd; however, small it may be, takes a toll on one’s nerves. One shouldn’t let anxiety win. Most of the time people feel anxious as they throw up or start getting cramps.

Unlike other things that one has to do for different reasons such as take up a low paying job, take a subject you don’t like, music is only taken up due to passion. It is something that requires one to be passionate or else there’s no room for them in the industry. If you are a first-time performer, the first thing that you should keep in your mind is to relax, calm down and take deep breaths. You should keep your anxiety in check, and the stage will let your inner diva out.

To make sure that you don’t have to go through an embarrassing situation, here listed below are seven tips that will surely make your music performance better.

  • Be careful about what you eat

One of the most important things that you should always keep in mind is to be critical of what you eat in the days leading up to the performance. Trust me; I know it can be hard and anxiety can get the better of you but be careful of what you do to keep it in check. If you go out to drink the night before your performance, chances are that you’ll have a hangover in the morning and that can ruin your performance.

Apart from that maybe eating an ice-cream or having something hot a day or two before your performance isn’t a smart move if you want to give your best at the performance.

  • Record your performance

I believe that man is his own best critic. No one knows how much capacity an individual has, that is why people often surprise us. You should record your performance to have a better understanding of where you can do better and what you need to change.

While constructive criticism from friends and family is good, you should learn to trust your gut. While assessing your performance, you should keep a close eye on every aspect of your performance. Some people only focus on the song, the result of that is that even though the song is impressive people don’t like the performance and the song gets lost in the sea of undiscovered talent.

  • Be aware of your nonverbal cues

While on stage one should focus on his/her body language. The best performers know when to keep distance and when to integrate with the crowd. You should enjoy your performance and let the energy that you feel flow through you. If you get on stage and stand as stiff as a stick with your arms crossed no one is going to hear your song.

  • Know about your music equipment

Another thing that you should keep in mind is that not all places offer you all the equipment you need. Struggling artists need to work hard to get the recognition that they aspire for. That means they need to be ready at all times. If the place doesn’t have a music setup, then keep your karaoke machine with you at all times. If you can’t find one, then hop over to Karaoke Bananza.

Apart from that if you are playing an instrument; make sure that you use the same guitar or piano for practice too. You should be familiar with all its features and make sure that it is in an optimum condition on the day you perform. It is good to change anything you want at least two to three days before the performance so that you’re familiar with it on the final day.

  • Use music applications and meditate

Technology has made everything a lot easier. You can learn anything you want to on your own by using technology. Music applications such as vocal ease, guitar lite, Karaoke-A-GoGo, etc. help you not only with vocal training but also with instrument practice.

Meditation is essential for those who are about to get on a stage in front of many people. Before you are going to go out on stage, you’re going to have a lot of thoughts rush into your mind. Every bad possibility that you can possibly think of is going to be in your head. At that moment you need to sit down, take deep calculated breaths and focus on the performance. Meditation can affect your performance a great deal if you do it right.

  • Exercise your vocal cords

Have you noticed how Simon Cowell often doesn’t like imitation? That’s because the song doesn’t represent you. In order to make the song yours, you need to practice and own it; you should know which notes are your best and where you can improve a little.

Apart from that, you should also consider your pace while singing; not everyone is a rapper doesn’t mean that they’re not good singers. Some songs sound good when they are slow for example “Jar of Hearts” and some songs are meant to be fast like “Girls like you.”

The main thing is that you recognize the strengths and flaws of your vocal spectrum and work on them.

  1. Appearance

Appearance is a big part of music nowadays. If you want to look the part, then you need to dress the part. That doesn’t mean that you need expensive clothes and bags and that you should empty your bank account. You should have a sense of style, and your personality should be represented well.

You have the whole internet to get inspirations from. However, know that originality is appreciated as compared to imitation. You don’t want to look like a wannabe, and you don’t need to look outdated. Try a few outfits on and ask for an opinion from friends and family but go with what your gut tells you to. The way you look will set a mood for the music that you’re going to perform.

While there are many other things that you should keep in mind while performing on stage if you follow the above mentioned points you’re surely going to have a blast. Know that it’s okay if something goes wrong, not everything turns out as we plan. However, you should learn from your mistakes and make sure they don’t happen again. There isn’t a shortcut to success; you get it if you try hard enough.
